Taken 26-06-05 at Kenwood houseThe Tibetians folks have embarked in a futile misadventure that could only end in great tragedy.
The world doesn't care about Tibet. Why should it ?? We have had an eventful decade. We have seen the best of humanity's offering from Rangoon to Rawanda, Iraq to Israel, Kosovo to Darfur. US is having its own problems from Tehran to Pyongyang.
We have been desensitized and rightly so, that's our problem.
Its not the Tibetian homeland issue but Dalai Lama's celebrity status and the upcoming Olympics, that is keeping Tibet in the headlines.
The international journalists assigned to Tibet are not interested in the Tibetian plight. They are there, simply to observe China's reaction or over-reaction.
They want China to blow them away with a much more crazier, wilder and spectacularly deadlier display of power than what happened in Tiananmen Square.
After what happened in Burma, we have kinda become used to seeing buddhists monks being battered, bruised and killed. Lets be clear about this, The only person willing to take on the Burma's military junta so far has been, Mr John Rambo.
Tibet or Taiwan, makes no difference to China. China is willing to take on the mighty USA for Taiwan.
Tibetains have only their prayer wheels and probably, the buddhist Richard "kissy-kissy-Silpa" Gere on their side; Taiwan has sophiscated missiles capable of attacking targets in China but this has not deterred China. It has no qualms about pointing its own missiles to its brothers-in-arms in the so called renegade province.
OUR HISTORY with TIBET
Was Tibet ever a free, independent country ?? (I genuinely do not know the answer, hope someone will fill me in)
Our Nepalese founding fathers attacked Tibet in 1790, only to be repelled by 70,000 Chinese soldiers who alleged came as close as 28 miles from KTM. We even sought the help of the British but to on avail. For our little misadventure, the Chinese made us pay tribute to the emperor of Peking for the next 20 years.
THE SECRET HISTORY (from my recollection of a documentary I saw a decade ago on tv)
In the 60s/70s(??) (in the past anyway), the CIA was dropping weapons in Nepal to train and create their own Tibetain Talibans Tiger to fight the Chinese. They even took some Tibetians folks to USA to train them. This stopped after the US administration stopped funding.
