Global Appeal: Nepali Actress Binita Poudyal Urgently Needs a Kidney Donor

After surviving a double lung transplant in 2014, the New York–based actress, dancer and professional video editor faces another critical health challenge. An appeal calls on the global community to help her find a living kidney donor.
Nepalism Exclusive | NEW YORK— Nepali actress and professional video editor Binita Poudyal urgently needs a kidney transplant, according to information shared with Nepalism. Her kidney function is reportedly approximately 9 percent, prompting an appeal for potential living donors to come forward through NewYork-Presbyterian’s transplant program.

For decades, actress Poudyal has shared Nepali arts and culture through acting, dance, choreography, teaching and video editing. Now, the artist who has brought her talents to classrooms, cultural festivals and community gatherings needs support as she faces another serious health challenge.
The appeal asks readers to share her story widely and encourages anyone interested in exploring living kidney donation to contact the hospital’s program.

A Life Dedicated to Nepali Arts and Culture
Born on February 10, 1970, in Panipokhari, Kathmandu, actress Poudyal is the youngest of four children—three sisters and one brother. Her artistic journey began as a child performer at approximately seven or eight years old. She later appeared as the lead actress in the 1994 film Mahamaya.
Alongside her performing career, she built a professional background in video editing. Her work included Nepal Television, Worldview International Foundation and freelance assignments with Shangri-La Channel TV and Young Asia TV.
Since 2000, actress Poudyal has actively promoted Nepali cultural heritage through performances, workshops, concerts and classes. Across nearly two and a half decades, she has shared her talents at universities, schools, museums, cultural festivals and community centers throughout the East Coast and beyond.
Her contributions reflect a lasting commitment to keeping Nepali artistic traditions alive and introducing them to new audiences.
An Earlier Journey Through Illness and Recovery
Actress Poudyal’s cultural work was interrupted in 2011 when she was diagnosed with chronic lung disease. On December 8, 2014, she underwent a double lung transplant—a demanding chapter in her life that required treatment, recovery and determination.
After several months of rest, she returned to sharing her artistic talents and promoting Nepali culture. Her journey through illness and back to creative work has offered a powerful example of hope, perseverance and resilience.
Today, her urgent need for a kidney transplant brings a renewed call for community solidarity.
