UNDO International Raises 3 Million Rupees for Nepal Flood Victims; Sets NPR 10 Million Relief Target

Global meeting pays tribute to flood victims, expresses solidarity with affected families, and launches month-long fundraising campaign

Exclusive: KATHMANDU, Nepal — August 28, 2026 — The United Nepali Diaspora Organization (UNDO) International raised approximately NPR 3 million (Rs. 30 lakh) in just one hour during a special international meeting convened Friday to mobilize humanitarian assistance for victims of the devastating floods affecting Rasuwa and surrounding districts of Nepal.

The virtual meeting, held under the agenda “Disaster Relief Strategies,”brought together members of the UNDO International Executive Committee, presidents of UNDO country organizations, and representatives from across the global Nepali diaspora.

The meeting was presided over by Mr. Sonam Lama, President of UNDO International, and moderated by Mr. Krishna Sanjel KC, General Secretary of UNDO International.

Meeting Pays Tribute to Flood Victims

The participants paid solemn tribute to those who lost their lives in the catastrophic floods, which have reportedly killed hundreds of people and left more than a thousand missing.

Members expressed profound sorrow over the scale of the tragedy and extended heartfelt condolences, prayers, and solidarity to families mourning the loss of loved ones.

The meeting also offered prayers for the safety, strength, and recovery of those injured, displaced, missing, or otherwise affected by the disaster, while recognizing the immense challenges facing communities whose homes and livelihoods have been destroyed.

Solidarity with Yogesh Adi and Betrawati Community

UNDO International expressed special solidarity with Mr. Yogesh Adi, Deputy Press Coordinator of UNDO International, whose home in Betrawati, Rasuwa, was severely damaged by the floods.

Participants highlighted the extraordinary destruction suffered by Betrawati, where more than 250 homes were reportedly wiped out or severely affected by the disaster.

UNDO International extended its prayers and support to Mr. Adi and his family, the residents of Betrawati, and communities throughout Rasuwa and surrounding areas confronting the devastating consequences of the floods.

Condolences to UNDO USA Vice President Samba P. Lamichhane

During the meeting, members also expressed their heartfelt condolences to Mr. Samba P. Lamichhane, Vice President of UNDO USA, following the untimely passing of his beloved mother.

UNDO representatives observed the loss with deep sympathy and extended their thoughts and prayers to Mr. Lamichhane, his family, relatives, and loved ones during their period of bereavement.

NPR 3 Million Raised in Just One Hour

As participants turned their attention to the urgent humanitarian response, pledges and contributions quickly reached approximately NPR 3 million — Rs. 30 lakh — within the one-hour meeting.

The rapid fundraising response demonstrated the willingness of Nepalis around the world to mobilize collectively during a national humanitarian crisis.

Building on the initial response, UNDO International announced that its Flood Victims Relief Fundraising Campaign will continue through September 30, 2026, with an overall goal of raising:

NPR 10 MILLION — RS. 1 CRORE

To reach the target, UNDO International plans to mobilize its worldwide network of national organizations, members, supporters, businesses, community leaders, well-wishers, and the broader Nepali diaspora throughout the month-long campaign.

The organization has decided that funds collected through the Flood Victims Relief Effort will be deposited into the Government of Nepal’s Prime Minister’s Emergency Relief Fund to support relief, recovery, rehabilitation, and assistance for communities affected by the disaster.

Global Nepali Diaspora Called to Unite

UNDO International thanked its Executive Committee members, country presidents, representatives, donors, supporters, and well-wishers who responded immediately to the emergency fundraising appeal.

The organization also called upon Nepalis throughout the world, diaspora organizations, businesses, community institutions, and friends of Nepal to join the campaign and help achieve the NPR 10 million (Rs. 1 crore) fundraising goal.

The fundraising effort reflects a broader commitment by the Nepali diaspora to stand with Nepal during one of the country’s most difficult moments and to translate global solidarity into tangible humanitarian assistance.

“In this moment of profound loss and devastation, UNDO International stands together with the victims, survivors, grieving families and affected communities,” the organization said. “Together, we can bring relief, restore hope and help Nepal rebuild.”
