UNDO to Hold Second Global Annual General Assembly in Kathmandu in December 2026, Expands Global Leadership and Organizational Network

Exclusive: The United Nepali Diaspora Organization (UNDO International) has decided to hold its Second Annual General Assembly in Kathmandu in December 2026, as the organization moves to further strengthen its global leadership, institutional structure, and worldwide diaspora network.

UNDO International General Secretary Krishna KC Sanjel told Nepalism that the exact date of the General Assembly will be finalized in consultation with Nepal’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, where the organization is officially registered.

UNDO International, similar to the Non-Resident Nepali Association (NRNA), is a social organization registered with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Government of Nepal. UNDO was officially registered on January 31, 2024.

The decision was made during UNDO International’s 14th International Meeting, which approved key institutional policies, welcomed new national leadership in Macao, Spain, and the United States, expanded the International Executive Committee, appointed new office bearers, and advanced initiatives aimed at connecting and empowering Nepali diaspora communities through a stronger global network.

The virtual meeting, held Saturday, July 25, 2026, under the chairmanship of UNDO International President Sonam Lama, reviewed the organization’s recent activities and adopted more than a dozen decisions focused on institutional development, organizational expansion, governance and stronger coordination among Nepali diaspora communities across the globe.

Among the key decisions, the meeting approved UNDO International’s Code of Conduct, Financial Policy, National Organization Expansion Guidelines, and Constitution for National Organizations, establishing a governance framework for the international organization and its growing network of national chapters.

New Leadership from Macao, Spain and USA Welcomed

The meeting formally welcomed the presidents of UNDO’s recently formed national organizations in Macao, Spain and the United States as ex-officio members of the International Executive Committee.

Santosh Gurung, President of UNDO Macao; Tulsi Gurung, President of UNDO Spain; and Rajesh Pandey, President of UNDO USA, joined the international leadership structure as representatives of their respective national organizations.

Their inclusion marks another step in UNDO International’s global expansion as it works to establish and strengthen national organizations in countries with significant Nepali diaspora communities and improve coordination between national chapters and the international leadership.

Ram C. Pokhrel Nominated to International Executive Committee

The meeting nominated Texas-based Nepali entrepreneur Ram C. Pokhrel as a member of the International Executive Committee.

Pokhrel is a former international office-bearer of the Non-Resident Nepali Association (NRNA) with experience in entrepreneurship, organizational leadership and diaspora engagement.

His nomination further expands U.S. representation within UNDO International’s leadership as the organization continues to broaden its international network.

Pradeep Pariyar Thapa Appointed International Press Coordinator and Spokesperson

The meeting appointed New Jersey-based media professional Pradeep Pariyar Thapa as International Press Coordinator, with the additional responsibility of serving as a Spokesperson for UNDO International.

Thapa brings more than three decades of experience in print and digital media across Nepal, India and the United States, along with more than 25 years of expertise in web technologies, digital branding, content strategy and communications.

In his new role, Thapa will coordinate UNDO International’s media relations and public communications and strengthen outreach to Nepali diaspora media, communities and stakeholders worldwide.

Three Advisors Nominated

The meeting also nominated three individuals as Advisors to UNDO International in recognition of their expertise in various fields and contributions to the organization.

Further details about the newly nominated Advisors are expected to be announced separately.

Second Annual General Assembly Set for Kathmandu

The meeting decided to hold UNDO International’s Second Annual General Assembly in Kathmandu in December 2026, bringing the organization’s international leadership and growing network of national organizations together in Nepal.

The exact date will be finalized in consultation with Nepal’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, where UNDO International is registered.

The General Assembly is expected to bring together international leadership, representatives of national organizations, members, diaspora leaders and stakeholders to review organizational progress, discuss institutional priorities, strengthen global coordination and chart the organization’s future direction.

The Kathmandu gathering is also expected to provide a platform for diaspora representatives from different countries to exchange experiences, strengthen cooperation and explore ways to mobilize diaspora knowledge, skills, networks and resources for Nepal’s development and nation-building.

Building a Global Nepali Diaspora Network

UNDO International has been expanding its organizational presence with the goal of connecting Nepalis living around the world through a unified global platform.

Through its international leadership and national organizations, UNDO seeks to strengthen cooperation, representation and engagement among diaspora Nepalis while encouraging their meaningful participation in Nepal’s development and nation-building.

The decisions adopted at the 14th International Meeting—from new governance policies and national expansion to leadership appointments and preparations for the December General Assembly—mark another step in UNDO International’s efforts to strengthen its institutional foundation and expand its global diaspora network.
