Voting Concludes Peacefully in Nepal, 60 Percent Turnout


Exclusive: The Election Commission has estimated that 60 percent of voters participated in Nepal’s latest election. Out of a total of 18,903,689 registered voters, nearly 11.3 million cast their ballots, while about 7.5 million did not vote.



In this election, approximately 800,000 voters registered for the first time. Among the total electorate, there are 9.006 million male voters and 9.002 million female voters.



Voting took place on Fagun 21 (March 5) for the 275-member Federal Parliament, including 165 seats elected through the First Past the Post (direct election) system and 110 seats through the Proportional Representation system.


A total of 6,541 candidates contested the election. Sixty-eight political parties fielded candidates, with 3,406 candidates competing under the First Past the Post system and 3,135 candidates under the Proportional Representation system.
