Updated: Exclusive: ईटालियन एक्सप्लोरर क्रिष्टोफर कोलम्वसले सन् १४९२ को अगष्ट १२ मा पहिलो पटक ओर्लिएर नयाँ संसार (New World) को रूपमा फेला पारेको भनिएको अहिलेको दक्षिण र उत्तर अमेरिकामा त्यस अघिनै दशौं हजार वर्षदेखि यहाँ नेटिभ अमेरिकन (अमेरिकी आदिवासी) हरू बसोवास गर्दथे। त्यसैले कोलम्वसले नयाँ विश्व पत्ता लगाएका हैनन् बरू उनी र उनी पछि आएका युरोपियनहरूले यहाँका रैथाने आदिवासीहरूको जनजीवन र सँस्कृतिमाथि नरसंहार र विध्वंस ल्याएका हुन् भन्ने ईतिहासको कालखण्डलाई स्वीकार गर्दै केही वर्ष यता कोलम्वस दिवसको सट्टा अक्टोवर ११ लाई आदिवासी दिवसको रूपमा मनाउन शुरू गरिएको हो। अमेरिकी वर्तमान राष्ट्रपति जोय वाईडेनले संघीय सरकारको तर्फबाट पहिलो पटक आदिवासी दिवसको अवसरमा प्रोक्लेमेसन नै जारी गरी आदिवासी दिवसलाई मान्यता दिएकाछन् भने युएसएटुडे (USAToday) पत्रिकाको एक रिपोर्टअनुसार १३० वटा अमेरिकी राज्य, नगरपालिका र स्थानीय सरकारहरूले कोलम्वस दिवस नमनाउने र त्यसको साटो आदिवासी दिवस मनाउने निर्णय गरेको उल्लेख गरेकोछ। यसो गरिनु किन महत्वपूर्ण छ? सविस्तार पुरा समाचार पढ्नुहोस्ः
अमेरिकी राष्ट्रपति जोय वाईडेनले आदिवासी दिवसको अवसरमा शुक्रवार जारी प्रोक्लेमेसनमा भनेकाछन्ः “For generations, Federal policies systematically sought to assimilate and displace Native people and eradicate Native cultures. Today, we recognize Indigenous peoples’ resilience and strength as well as the immeasurable positive impact that they have made on every aspect of American society.” (Read>>)
राष्ट्रपति वाईडेनले कोलम्वस दिवसको अवसरमा जारी प्रोक्लेमेसनमा अमेरिकी आदिवासीहरूले भोगेको जातीय हिंशा र साँस्कृतिक विध्वंसबारे भनेकाछन्ः
“Today, we also acknowledge the painful history of wrongs and atrocities that many European explorers inflicted on Tribal Nations and Indigenous communities. It is a measure of our greatness as a Nation that we do not seek to bury these shameful episodes of our past — that we face them honestly, we bring them to the light, and we do all we can to address them. For Native Americans, western exploration ushered in a wave of devastation: violence perpetrated against Native communities, displacement and theft of Tribal homelands, the introduction and spread of disease, and more. On this day, we recognize this painful past and recommit ourselves to investing in Native communities, upholding our solemn and sacred commitments to Tribal sovereignty, and pursuing a brighter future centered on dignity, respect, justice, and opportunity for all people.” (Read>>)
युएसएटुडे (USAToday) पत्रिकाको एक रिपोर्टअनुसार १३० वटा अमेरिकी राज्य, नगरपालिका र स्थानीय सरकारहरूले कोलम्वस दिवस नमनाउने र त्यसको साटो आदिवासी दिवस मनाउने निर्णय गरेको उल्लेख गरेकोछ। (Read USAToday news story)
उक्त रिपोर्ट अनुसार आदिवासी दिवस मनाउने राज्यहरूमा Arizona, California, Iowa, Louisiana, Michigan, Minnesota, Nevada, North Carolina, Virginia, Wisconsin, Washington DC, Alabama, Alaska, Hawaii, Maine, Nebraska, New Mexico, Oklahoma, Oregon, South Dakota र Vermont छन्।
सो रिपोर्टमा सयभन्दा बढी अमेरिकी सहरहरूले कोलम्वस दिवसको साटो आदिवासी दिवस मनाउने निर्णय गरेको उल्लेख गर्दै सियाटल, लस एन्जेलस, बोस्टन, डेनभर, फोनिक्स र सान फ्रान्सिस्को जस्ता ठूला सहरहरूले पनि कोलम्वस दिवसको साटो आदिवासी दिवस मनाउन थालेको बताईएकोछ।
सन् २००७ मा संयुक्त राष्ट्र संघले विश्वभरका आदिवासीहरूको अधिकारको लागि घोषणा पत्र Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous People जारी गरेपछि सन् २००८ को फेब्रूवरी १३ मा अष्ट्रेलियाका तत्कालिन प्रधानमन्त्री केभिन रडले त्यहाँका Stolen Generation का aboriginal आदिवासीहरूको सामू “राष्ट्रिय माफी” मागेका थिए।
त्यसैगरी, सन् २००८ को जुन ११ मा क्यानाडाका तत्कालिन प्रधानमन्त्री स्टेफेन हार्परले क्यानाडेली आदिवासी सामू विगतमा आदिवासीमाथि भएको अन्यायको निम्ति आममाफी मागेका थिए।
अब पालो कस्को?
नेपालका शासक वर्गले अब नेपाली आदिवासी जनजाति, सिमान्तकृत र तथाकथित अछुत बनाईएका जात जातिहरूको सामू आममाफी माग्दै अमेरिकी राष्ट्रपति वाईडेनले भने झैं बाचा गरिनु पर्छः
“Today, we recognize Indigenous peoples’ resilience and strength as well as the immeasurable positive impact that they have made on every aspect of American society. We also recommit to supporting a new, brighter future of promise and equity for Tribal Nations — a future grounded in Tribal sovereignty and respect for the human rights of Indigenous people in the Americas and around the world.”
“The Federal Government has a solemn obligation to lift up and invest in the future of Indigenous people and empower Tribal Nations to govern their own communities and make their own decisions. We must never forget the centuries-long campaign of violence, displacement, assimilation, and terror wrought upon Native communities and Tribal Nations throughout our country. Today, we acknowledge the significant sacrifices made by Native peoples to this country — and recognize their many ongoing contributions to our Nation.”
