Exclusive: नेपालको काठमाण्डौंमा जन्मेकी तर अमेरिकाको न्यू योर्क राज्यलाई आफ्नो घर र कर्मथलो बनाएकी नेपाली चेली सराहना श्रेष्ठ अमेरिकामा पहिलो नेपाली अमेरिकन राज्य एसेम्बली सदस्य बनेर ईतिहास रचेकीछिन्। सराहना नेपाली-अमेरिकी समुदायको चम्किलो मोती हुन्। उनको यो विजयले ईतिहास मात्र रचेको छैन बल्की अमेरिकाको मूलधारे राष्ट्रिय राजनीतिमा हाम्रो समुदायको लागि नयाँ बाटो खोलेको छ। उनको जीतले अब नेपाली-अमेरिकी समुदायको पहिचानको अर्को उँचाई कायम गरेको छ। अमेरिकी सपनाको उनी ज्वलन्त उदाहरण बनेकीछिन्।
नवनिर्वाचित न्यू योर्क राज्य एसेम्बली सदस्य सराहना श्रेष्ठले आफ्नो फेसबुक पेजमा आफ्नो एसेम्बली जीतबारे “The future must be beautiful, and I am so honored to have the opportunity to build it with you.” भन्दै अगाडि लेखेकिछिन्-
“Just as almost 8,000 primary voters took a chance on hope and possibility when they voted for me in June, 35,493 voters went to the polls this midterm election to protect a vision of the world that is rooted in kindness and justice. Despite the constant misrepresentation of this vision by the opposition, and the disfiguring of it into fear and hatred, we won by an overwhelming margin: 58.70% to 38.21%.
This win belongs equally, if not more, to our volunteer team members who showed up after the primary to continue building our movement through the general election, who did not at all slow down for the final stretch, and the thousands of District 103 residents who spoke to us in earnest and cheered us on.
The future must be beautiful, and I am so honored to have the opportunity to build it with you.”
न्यू योर्क राज्यको डिस्ट्रिक्ट १०३ को गत नोवेम्बर ८ तारिख सम्पन्न एसेम्बली निर्वाचनमा डेमोक्रेटिक पार्टीको उम्मेदवारकारूपमा सराहना श्रेष्ठ पहिलो पटक निर्वाचित भएकी हुन्। सराहानाले कूल मतको ५८.७० प्रतिसत अर्थात ३५ हजार ४९३ मत ल्याएर उनको निकटतम प्रतिद्वन्द्वी रिपब्लिकन पार्टीका प्याट्रिक सिहानको ३८.२१ प्रतिसत अर्थात २३ हजार १०४ मतलाई १२ हजार ३८९ मतको अन्तरले पछाडि पार्दै विजेता बनेकी हुन्।
